Holiday Cheer | Week 3

Welcome to week three of Holiday Cheer.

This morning, I was standing at my kitchen window, enjoying my coffee and lost in thought—thoughts about preparing for next week's Thanksgiving festivities. I love planning and preparing our favorite dishes, gathering around the table, sharing stories, laughing, and finding time to rest. And, now that my mom lives here, not only will she be part of our Thanksgiving Day feast, she and I have decided to make one of my grandmother’s special recipes together to bring to dinner.

The early morning thoughts then turned to the gift I wanted to give away for week three of Holiday Cheer. It is a small abstract inspired by a road trip I took with my mom in June 2020 when I drove her from Austin to New Orleans. We met up with her cousin, and I drove them past their childhood homes, old high school, and the location of an old movie theater. They would go to see the latest movie once a month, and the cost of the ticket was a nickel - which included a bag of candy.

I loved listening to them reminisce about their childhood, and many teenage escapades as I drove them around their old neighborhoods and favorite spots. The afternoon was such a beautiful gift, and one I will treasure forever.

The idea for a small series of abstract paintings called “The Window” was inspired by this trip and the many stories I was lucky enough to hear. Below is one of the pieces I created and is this week’s giveaway. Leave a comment and your name will go into the drawing.
