Week 1

The Elements Of Your Style | Your Words, Lines, And Marks

Your personal history, stories, experiences, and conversations are a wellspring of inspiration for your artwork. They are your guiding light as you make that first mark on your paper, drag a palette knife across your canvas, or how you scribble or scratch through layers of paint. Your personal vocabulary of marks and how you create them will bring meaning to your work.

Module 1 is filled with fun! It is also about self-discovery, unearthing your beautiful gifts, passions, and experiences that all make up your creative DNA.

In the creative session series, I will demonstrate how my personal history has influenced the way I create lines, marks, and other elements that I bring to my work. It is all about exploring and embracing the original and beautiful marks that flow through you onto the paper.

We will finish the module by taking select pieces of your beautiful work and putting them into handmade concertina books.

Week 2

Your Beauty & Truth | Seeing The World Through Your Eyes

When we embrace the unique way we see, hear, and feel about the beauty and imperfections of the world around us, we can finally take the necessary steps to use our voice as an artist.

Module 2 is taking the time to look at what you find beautiful in the world around you. Embrace how you see the shapes, forms, and textures in a landscape, a flower, the city streets, nature, and people.

In the creative session series, send your pesky perfectionist on a road trip and create a beautiful series of spontaneous shapes in ink on paper. Get messy as you explore form using air-dry clay to make a small bowl, tray, and if you're feeling adventurous, a small figure (all with shapes).

My favorite project is the "Tapestry of Beauty & Truth." Push aside the noise, and create a beautiful collage using shapes, lines, stitching, ephemera, texture, and natural elements mounted on a wood panel. This intensely personal piece of art can be hung in your home to remind you to create from your heart.

Week 3

COLOR TRAVELOGUE

Choosing the right colors can immediately impact our art and evoke an emotional response from us and the viewer. It works subconsciously, as we seem to gravitate towards specific colors - bright and joyful, moody and muted, or a natural palette may be what attracts our eye.

Why are you drawn to specific colors and combinations of colors? When you can answer these questions, I believe you will have the start of your palette of beautiful colors to bring to the canvas. You will no longer need to search for that perfect color or wonder what specific shade of blue another artist uses. And, if you're like me, it will be an ongoing exploration and experimentation of color. Glorious Color!

Color is a deep subject and can take a lifetime of study. So one week of color consumption will not entirely fill the well, but it will get us started on the road of color self-discovery!

Engage your imagination as you work through the week's fun color assignments. Create your personal Book of Colors, bring in a storytelling component and put together an inspiration board that will be your color guide. And finally, weave your discoveries together to create a series of spontaneous and intuitive abstract paintings in the medium of your choice.

Week 4

EMBRACE YOUR SUBJECT

Think of this module as a bridge between you and your art. When you choose a subject to express an idea, feeling, or experience, you begin to travel towards the work you are meant to create—all the while being mindful of the steps you take as you cross the bridge.

In module 4, I share my philosophy and process about choosing a subject, planning, and practicing. By choosing your subject matter, medium, and substrate, you will take the proper steps to engage your imagination and ideas. Eventually, you will develop a process to help you stay the course and build the confidence you need to make compelling art.

Week 5

COMMIT TO YOUR IDEA

In module 5, I will share everything I have discovered about taking that "inkling" of an idea pulling the hardest, and giving it the space it needs to turn into something beautiful. How to overcome resistance, fear, and self-doubt as you move forward to create your art. You will be prepared to take the steps you need to move forward and use your gorgeous creative power!

We will take baby steps along the way to develop our ideas, pull together our sources of inspiration, research, collect, and plan to create. I will be there every step of the way and share with you how I take an inkling of an idea and give it space to become more.

The Creative Sessions

The "creative sessions" are not about painting, drawing, or making art like me. Nor are they step-by-step technique lessons. They are meant as a visual guide to help you engage your imagination and create something uniquely you.

My intention behind the "creative sessions" is to encourage you to explore, experiment, make messes, and loosen up while making discoveries about yourself and what you want to create.

I know in my heart that there is power in believing that we are profoundly creative and have

something to communicate through art.

F O U N D is an intensive workshop that will give you the confidence to embrace your creative power and find your personal roadmap to creating authentic, beautiful art from a place that resides deep in your soul.

  • Enjoy exploring the creative sessions and weekly assignments. (remember you have lifetime access to the workshop and can go at your own pace)

  • There are a few suggested art supplies that you may want to purchase to explore the concepts and assignments. But, to attain the most benefit from the workshop, I feel it is essential to use mediums and art supplies you feel most confident working with.

  • By committing to work through all assignments and creative sessions, I know in my heart you will walk out the other side of this workshop transformed and with a renewed sense of creative confidence.

Five Week Intensive Online Workshop

THE WORKSHOP IS PRE-RECORDED WITH LIFETIME ACCESS.

I want you to imagine immersing yourself in beautiful, soul-searching lessons that will guide you to experiment, explore, play, and contemplate your work. Envision how it will feel to create with confidence and nurture ideas from a deep place within your soul.

Art Supplies

I want you to have a great experience in the workshop, and one way to do that is to use the art supplies and mediums you feel most comfortable using. Since this class is a bit different from my "step by step" classes, using the mediums you have on hand will give you the freedom to explore and experiment.

With that said, there are a few suggested items that you might want to think about purchasing for the workshop.
If you're interested in working large, buy the drawing paper roll. However, if you're not interested in using the roll, purchase the Strathmore 18X24 pad of drawing paper; the sheets are still large enough to work on and get interesting marks and lines.

Strathmore Drawing Paper (Roll)

Strathmore Drawing Paper (18 x 24) Pad

Wood Panel (optional) - I will use this in Module 2 for the final collage piece. But, you can use anything you have on hand to make the collage.

Watercolor paper or mixed media paper of your choice. There are a lot of exercises that will use watercolor paper, so make sure you have enough. Feel free to use hot or cold press, which ever is your favorite. I feel strongly about getting the best paper you can for the best results.

Color Wheel - This is my favorite Color Wheel! I think every artist should have this one in their studio, I use it all the time.

Artist Tape

Inspiration Boards: In Module 3 & 5, you will create two separate inspiration boards. You can tape it onto a wall or door in your home. Use a pinboard or a piece of foam core. You can also pick up a small piece of MDF from the hardware store use it as well.

Additional Substrates: When it comes to your final pieces, I encourage you to choose the substrates you love working on. You don't have to have anything specific since this is about you and the work you choose to create.
