Holiday Cheer | Week 4

It is hard to believe that November is almost over, and my second year of Holiday Cheer is coming to a close. For me, selecting the perfect gift to give away, the creative projects for the weekly demo, and the free art lesson have been so much fun to plan. Thank you for sharing your time with me, your beautiful artwork, and your kind words.

Now on to the festivities!

This week, I am giving away another original painting from my Window series. I remember when the idea came to me, I was in my studio, looking out the window at the beautiful Summer day, the warm sunshine, flowers in our garden, and our sweet Milly running around chasing squirrels like a lunatic. Just a lovely little moment in time to capture through my art.

I love that we can take any moment in time and weave it into our art originally and authentically, then build upon the idea, and let it lead us to the next piece and the next one afterward.

Leave a comment below and your name will be entered into the drawing.

Our last in the Free art lesson series is again from my class, The Storytellers. In this lesson, we will create a "collection of ideas." Small and simple, these little collages can be a constant source of inspiration—a place to keep every idea, random thought, quick sketch, or color swatch.

Gather items that inspire you, like, simple color swatches, old photos, fabric, objects from nature, turn on some music, and have fun playing! I promise you will feel that creative spark ignite, and ideas for your artwork will begin to flow!

I love this lesson so much that I included it in my live workshop at Jeanne Oliver's studio last Fall. It was exciting to watch everyone create their version of the cards throughout the weekend. I still use this technique when cleaning up my studio or playing around with leftover bits and pieces. So play, tell little stories, daydream, and most importantly, have fun!

I want to share a post that Miss Mustard Seed (Marian Parsons) did on her blog about Shopping Small. She has a fantastic eye for beautiful gifts and shares several of her favorite small shops where you can select special gifts for those on your Holiday list. I want to thank her for including my art classes in her post (thank you, Marian)

Marian is a gifted fine artist and interior designer. Her home is stunning, and her blog is overflowing with so much beauty that I have a hard time pulling myself away. She even has a gorgeous new book out, Feels Like Home; I purchased a copy and loved sitting down with my cup of coffee and pouring over the beautiful pages. I have to say, it is one of my favorite home decor books because she takes you by the hand and shows you how to create beautiful spaces that reflect your style.

Take a moment and stop by her blog, I promise you will not be disappointed.
