Creating an Inspiration Board.
/Before I begin a new course or a series of paintings, I have to collect my thoughts. I spend a lot of time gathering various images, items from nature, poems, music, old journal entries, sketches, texture, and color.
This process seems to move me in the direction I need to go. Right now, Magnolias, old stories, a road trip, and sweet memories are on my mind.
The beginning of something new!
I believe that when you combine a collection of unrelated ideas,
you will stumble upon something unique to you!
I try to incorporation the following while creating an inspiration board:
Color - Texture - Words - Old Sketches - Vintage Papers and Photos - Fabric Swatches - Natural Objects - Stitching
Now It’s Your Turn!
Below are a few prompts to help you get started.
Photo of your favorite flower - make a sketch of the flower for your board.
Suggested color palette: Blues, Greens, Raw Sienna, and Pink - feel free to use your favorite colors!
Create color swatches from your chosen palette and paint onto vintage paper, card board, or and old postcard.
Read a poem by Mary Oliver - write out a few lines in sharpie on a piece of paper.
Black & White copy of a family photo | or vintage photo
Your favorite childhood story - image or quote.
Something from nature: feather, twig, seashell, stone.
Make a playlist for a Summer road trip and listen to it while you create.
Light a candle, set a timer for 30-45 minutes, and have fun!
