The Lessons

Lesson 1 | French Postcard Series

Abstract, Collage, and Stitching on vintage French postcards.

Somehow these vintage postcards made their way into my hands. I studied each one, had them translated, and turned them into my art. I was thinking about the journey each one made. The original postcard made it's the way with its lovely greeting into the hands of a good friend or family member. The postcard kept them connected, sharing treasured experiences.

Inspired by these vintage postcards' journey, I will share how I painted, cut, stitched, and made marks to create this series of six.

Lesson 2 | French Greeting | Pen & Ink

Turn your handwriting into a beautiful piece of abstract art. Take inspiration from a collection of French greetings, and choose a pen, dip your brush into paint, or grab a simple Sharpie marker to create a piece that is as unique as your signature. I will include a list of fun French/English greetings to use as inspiration.

Lesson 3 | Abstract on Paper

We can find inspiration for our art in everyday conversations, storytelling, and beautiful experiences with the people in our lives. Working intuitively with acrylics, pastels, and a few colored pencils, we will allow these treasured conversations to float to the surface as we create a beautiful abstract on paper.

Lesson 4 | Abstract & Collage

Let the fragments of conversations, ideas, inspiration, and random thoughts float to the surface as you create this abstract collage. Build up a creamy layer of paint and collage papers to build your background. Add more layers of vintage paper, stitching, personal sketches, words, and mark-making to create this very unique piece of art.

Your Color Story

I love to use vintage books to capture my ideas. They quickly become a beautiful collection of colors, marks, collage, and possibilities.

We begin our class by mixing a limited palette, adding a touch of collage, a little stitching to spark your creativity.
