Course Details
In this class, I bring together all my beautiful memories, from early childhood vacations, working in the deep south of Italy as a pizza baker in my early twenties, to my many travels throughout Italy with my family. Italy has and will always have a significant influence on both my life and work.
I will show you how I translate those recollections into abstract landscapes, a monoprint assemblage, and a layered visual collage with my own photography.
The memories I've based this course on are, of course, mine. As you go through these lessons, give yourself the time and space to think about yours; I encourage you to create art from your own reminiscences.

The Lessons
You can find a list of suggested art supplies at the bottom of this page.
Lesson 1 | Ricordi, A Box Full of Memories
I filled a box with many things that remind me of many times I have spent in Italy and added vintage ephemera and my own photos to it as a source of inspiration to use when I am in a creative rut. Collect your souvenirs, elements of nature, vintage ephemera, and photos to create a box full of memories as a source of inspiration for your art.
Make small collages on colored cards to add to the box as your palette. You will use these colors to create a cohesive body of work throughout the class.
Lesson 2 | Creating Collage Papers
Create repetitive marks with different tools and mediums on vintage book pages to add to your art throughout the class.
Lesson 3 | The Italian Collage
Turn your collage papers, vintage ephemera, and your photography into a collage with many layers, depth, and memories. Included are downloadable photos that I made in Italy for you to use, but I encourage you to use your own images.
Lesson 4 | Abstract Landscapes On Paper
Move freely and create abstract landscapes with a minimal palette of acrylic paint, layers of pastels, mark-making, and collage materials in your journal and translate that painting to two works on beautiful handmade papers.
Lesson 5 | Tipografia Italiana, Assemblage Of Mono Printed Papers
My love of typography and Italy seep through in my mono-printing approach and show you how I created beautiful sheets to use in collage work and this assembled art piece. You will use vintage book pages to create text transfers, make botanical and coffee prints, create layers and layers with colors, marks, and stamps.
