We are now into our second week of High School at the Mueller house, and finally starting settle into the new schedule. Olivia is getting a bit better about waking up in the mornings, but that doesn’t mean she is springing out of bed. She informed me that she is not a “morning person” and that teenagers need a lot of sleep. So, I quietly sip my coffee, make lunch and try to get her out of the house on time. So far, so good!
As September inches along, I am already missing Summer. I love the slower pace, vacations with my family, sitting in the backyard under the stars, and having long conversations while enjoying a glass of wine. And let’s not forget the flowers. Beautiful, beautiful flowers everywhere.
Now, if you’re anything like me and need to ease into Fall, how about treating yourself to a little creative learning with my new art class. I would like to think of it as a sort of “back-to-art-school for adults, if you will. Something that may help us to hold onto Summer a bit longer.
Let me tell you a bit about the class.
It all started when the lilacs bloomed in our backyard, I was so excited to see them after a ridiculously long winter here in Michigan. Those gorgeous lilacs gave me a little glimmer of an idea that I let roll around in my head for a bit.
Then came the peonies, and there was no turning back. I began bringing more and more flowers into our home and then into my studio. I pulled out my supplies and started drawing and painting without expectation. It was so much fun that I knew it was time to create a new class. And, it was the perfect excuse to visit the local flower shops and buy more flowers - research my friends, research :)
Now you know a little about the “Petals” portion of the class, so now, a little about the “Portrait” section.
You may recall that back in March I decided to draw 100 Portraits in 100 Days. It was a very challenging project, and one where I learned a few things about myself as an artist. I can now fully embrace what I want to create and how I want to create it. I know this will change as I grow, but for the moment, this is where I am as an artist.
There are three different portrait projects in this class. I will demonstrate and guide you along and share my process of drawing a portrait from start to finish. I will also share my favorite art supplies and techniques.
Flowers are so inspiring and can bring so much meaning to your art. I hope you will join me in this new class. It is literally overflowing with inspiration.
You can learn more about the class here. There is a short video with a peek into the class projects.
